The Ultimate Guide to Finding the Top Grinder Brand: Unveiling the Finest Options for the Perfect Grind

Are you tired of struggling with dull, inefficient grinders that leave your herbs in less than ideal condition? Look no further! In this article, we will unveil the best grinder brand that will revolutionize your herbal grinding experience. From the precision of the Brilliant Cut Grinder to the vintage charm of the Androck Nut Grinder, we have curated a list of the most outstanding herb mills that will elevate your grinding game to new heights. Get ready to discover the perfect companion for your herbal adventures and unlock the secrets of enhanced flavor and potency.

Brilliant Cut Grinder

The Brilliant Cut Grinder is highly recommended for its smooth action and jam-free design features. It is constructed from 7075 aluminum alloy, giving it a sturdy and durable feel without being overly bulky. The threadless pieces are magnetized, ensuring a snug fit that holds tight even if the grinder is accidentally dropped on a linoleum floor.

Before loading the grinder, the pieces have a satin smooth spinning action. This smoothness is partially attributed to the ring that fits between the spinning pieces, which has a teflon-like feel. The teeth surrounding the center post serve to hold everything in place, preventing the sidewalls from rubbing together during the grinding process. This design greatly reduces the surface area that the buds can get squished into.

The Brilliant Cut Grinder's middle plate is designed in such a way that more of its holes are located on the outer edges rather than in the middle. This design seems to result in a fairly consistent grind. However, there may be some larger pieces left when grinding dense buds. Overall, the medium plate produces a slightly finer consistency compared to the other plates. It is not recommended to turn the grinder upside down for a finer grind due to how the top piece fits inside the middle piece. This can cause the grinder to make a mess and spit out the buds or squish them onto the ring between the two pieces. While this design reveals how the grinder prevents jamming on the sidewalls, it is advisable to purchase multiple plates if you desire different consistencies.

One feature that the Brilliant Cut Grinder lacks is a kief screen. However, this design seems to prevent a significant amount of kief from becoming "grinder hash," ensuring that all the desired components make their way down into the bottom compartment rather than getting stuck in crevices.

I would recommend this grinder for on-the-go users due to its sturdy yet lightweight design. Those seeking a fine consistency for vaping may find the Brilliant Cut Grinder to be the best option. It is worth noting that grinding the grinder upside down is not advisable.

Capacity: Medium

Strength: Requires more effort compared to stainless steel options, but less prone to jamming

Materials and construction: Durable construction with anodized aluminum that may wear over time

Ease of cleaning: Relatively easy to clean and accumulates less residue compared to other grinders

Pieces: Does not include a kief screen

The Herb Mill

For an affordable option that can also be used as a kitchen tool, we found suggestions for The Herb Mill from Microplane. This gadget is handy for preparing cilantro on taco Tuesday. Although it is relatively cheaply made, it is also much more affordable compared to premium grinders. However, I did have concerns about how well the aluminum "teeth" would hold up when grinding dense herbs and the occasional stray stems.

The Herb Mill requires more pressure compared to other grinders. In addition to twisting the grinder, you also need to push down on the "plunger" to ensure that the ingredients are pushed into the blades. While this can be a drawback, it allows for on-the-fly adjustments from fine to coarse grading. With light pressure, you can achieve a very fine consistency, while more pressure will result in larger pieces before they are chopped up.

Honestly, using The Herb Mill is not as enjoyable as using the Androck Nut Grinder, and it does not offer precise control over consistency. Regardless of how careful you are, you may end up with a mix of different consistencies. Additionally, there is no receptacle for the ground herb, so you would need to hold the grinder over a jar or container to avoid spillage. While this may not be a major issue, it can be inconvenient as most grinders also act as a container.

In my opinion, The Herb Mill may not be the most useful grinder, but it does have some benefits. The need for a separate container and its durability are reasons to consider other options. It is difficult to imagine that the blades will not get jammed up, unless the grinder is cleaned every time it is used. However, it does offer a quick way to make smoking weed feel like cooking. For fine grinding required in the preparation of edibles or for conduction vaping, using a coffee grinder may be a better choice.

Consistency: Adjustable and capable of achieving a very fine grind

Capacity: Large

Strength: Requires some effort

Materials/Construction: Fairly cheap, but reflects the price tag

Cleaning: Not particularly enjoyable after prolonged use, but can be soaked

Pieces/Screen: No kief screen or container for ground bud

The Herb Mill is a budget-friendly option that can quickly grind a large amount of bud into various consistencies. However, it is expected that the blades will dull quickly, making it challenging to clean and maintain.

Androck Vintage Nut Grinder

After searching through listings on eBay, I discovered that many of these devices are vintage in every sense of the word. They are faded, rusty, and generally unappealing. While a little rust in an apple walnut salad won't harm you (free iron supplement!), it is worth noting that in the early 1900s, doctors prescribed treatments like arsenic and mercury for syphilis, erectile dysfunction, and even the common cold. It is safe to say that they were not overly concerned with metal contamination in consumer products. Let's just hope that we won't be smoking our salad this time. Sounds good, right?

I, however, prefer to ensure that my buds are as clean as possible. Therefore, I wanted to find something in great condition that wouldn't contaminate my herb. Eventually, I found a grinder that satisfied my requirements. It cost just over $20 with shipping, and when it arrived, I was charmed by its cute glass jar and crank handle. However, I still remained skeptical about its grinding performance. As I unpacked the grinder, I discovered a little surprise inside the metal teeth.

androck nut grinder teeth clogged

As it turns out, the grinder teeth were clogged with ground-up nuts. While I was relieved knowing that my device was rust-free, it was not easy to scrape off the nut residue from the metal teeth. I eventually settled for "close enough." Now, let's move on to the fun part!

androck nut grinder loaded with weed

As you can see, the Androck Nut Grinder easily holds the 1.5 grams of weed I used to test each grinder, and it could hold even more. The receptacle at the bottom is even larger, allowing you to grind about 10 grams, add another 10 grams, and so on, until you fill the jar with well over an ounce of ground bud. When you load it up and crank the handle, you can't help but crack a smile as you watch the flat metal teeth squish and tear apart your weed, dropping it into the container below. Cranking the handle through big chunks of weed requires some effort, but since the grinder does not have any sharp or pointy edges, it is easier than you might think. According to my understanding, spinning it one way is supposed to result in a finer grind, while spinning it the other way produces a coarser consistency. However, I had too much fun spinning it around to notice much of a difference.

Aside from a jumbo-sized coffee grinder, there is no other grinder on the market that makes it as easy to prepare for a party, festival, or any other serious smoke session. If you have ever tried using a coffee grinder, you probably ended up with a mixture of weed dust and large chunks. However, the Androck Nut Grinder excels in this regard.

For those who enjoy smoking blunts and joints, the mixed consistency of medium and larger pieces is the closest experience to using your own fingers. It is not a trivial matter, as larger chunks reduce the amount of air introduced to the ember, resulting in lower, safer, and more flavorful temperatures. With enough small pieces to fill in the gaps, you can achieve the perfect, slow-burning blunt or joint with minimal pinching required for the larger chunks.

Consistency: Large consistency of bud, ideal for rolling up but somewhat useless for vaping

Capacity: Huge capacity, grinds and collects an ounce or more in minutes

Strength: Requires some effort compared to premium options

Materials/Construction: Well-built, but specific materials are unknown

Cleaning: Somewhat easy to clean out, but may not be washable

Pieces/Screen: No kief screen

The Androck Nut Grinder is recommended for heavy smokers who exclusively smoke joints, blunts, or fat bowls with chunky nugs. It is not recommended for light smokers, vapers, or those who make edibles.

Boomers Stainless Steel Grinder

For those who believe in the "less is more" mantra, the Boomers Stainless Steel Grinder is the ultimate choice. Its hefty stainless steel pieces have a surprisingly elegant finish, complete with a nicely etched logo and criss-cross scoring on its edges. This classic design is typically associated with acrylic grinders, which we do not recommend. However, in this case, the stainless steel construction eliminates any concerns about plastic residue.

The Boomers grinder does not feature a kief screen, magnets, or plates with different-sized holes. Instead, it consists of two solid pieces of metal with sharp teeth that easily sink into large nugs and tear them apart. This grinder could probably decimate a bag of nails if you wanted it to, which got me thinking about other potential uses for this versatile tool. For fun, I threw in some almonds and cashews, and within seconds, I had toppings for a salad or noodle dish.

The Boomers grinder is not the best choice for portability. It is incredibly heavy and does not have threads or magnets to keep it securely closed during travel. Additionally, without a collection chamber, pre-grinding weed for a show or event can be challenging.

One advantage of the two-piece design is its flexibility in achieving the desired consistency. The more you spin, the finer the grind. Another notable feature is that the grinder can be washed in the dishwasher. While this is true for any stainless steel grinder, the Boomers grinder has no nuts, bolts, rings, or gaskets to trap soap and water. This means that you can clean it without any fuss or extra drying time.

Ultimately, the Boomers Stainless Steel Grinder is best suited for general use at home. Unless you manage to lose it, this grinder will last a lifetime with minimal maintenance.

Capacity: Medium (can fit approximately two grams without squishing or overflowing)

Strength: Tears through herb with ease

Materials and construction: Exceptionally durable

Ease of cleaning: Accumulates some residue, but can be easily scraped or soaked out

Pieces: No screen or collection chamber

The Cali Crusher

Next on the list is the Cali Crusher, which offers some customizable options and stands out as the only grinder that allows for custom etching. However, apart from that feature, there is not much else to praise. Compared to other grinders, the Cali Crusher feels lightweight and initially gives a nice impression. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that it is poorly made and lacks durability.

cali crusher weed grinder disassembled photo

Despite having one of the largest capacities among standard weed grinders, it requires significantly more effort to grind 1.5 grams of dense buds compared to other grinders. The "quicklock technology" works well when unused, but it still relies on threads to keep the grinder closed. Eventually, these threads can become clogged, making it more difficult to open and close the grinder.

There are no o-rings to seal in freshness and aroma, and the magnets are not strong enough to inspire confidence in the grinder's ability to remain closed and retain its contents during travel.

And the kief screen? It appears to be nothing more than a window screen bolted into the grinder! It is essentially an oversized pipe screen that is flimsy enough to be easily bent out of place. Furthermore, the resulting "kief" consists mostly of leaf and plant matter. While a proper stainless steel screen is costly, at a price point of , this compromise seems outrageous.

Consistency: Medium-fine consistency that works reasonably well for most purposes

Capacity: Medium-large (grinds 2.5 grams)

Strength: Unimpressive compared to premium options

Materials/Construction: Poor quality considering the price

Cleaning: Wide spaced teeth make it relatively easy to clean

Pieces/Screen: Four-piece grinder with a low-quality screen that can be used as a three-piece grinder

Unless custom etching is the most important factor for you, the Cali Crusher is too expensive given its poor quality and build, and it is not recommended.

The Herb Ripper

Here we have the Herb Ripper, a small yet remarkably strong and well-built grinder. It is expensive but constructed entirely of stainless steel. In my opinion, it is the best-looking grinder among those that I reviewed. It boasts a sleek elegance without any gaudiness commonly found in "high-end" cannabis products. The Herb Ripper would not feel out of place in a limousine alongside a bottle of chilled champagne.

herb ripper weed grinder disassembled

My main concern with the Herb Ripper was its size. Would it be able to handle the 2.5 grams of weed I loaded it with?

herb ripper weed grinder fully loaded photo

As you can see, there is no way it won't get jammed up, right? To my surprise, this little steel cylinder had no trouble tearing through all that weed. In fact, it was almost effortless. Despite being slightly overfilled for its size, the Herb Ripper spun around smoothly like butter in a frying pan. In fact, it was smoother and easier to twist than most larger grinders I have used.

Furthermore, the middle compartment for holding the bud is quite spacious, and the kief compartment has plenty of room as well. The magnet used in this grinder is by far the strongest among those I have reviewed, and it features rubber o-rings on both the top and bottom pieces, providing peace of mind when tossing it around. However, it is important to note that it is quite heavy. So, if you plan to carry the Herb Ripper in your pocket, make sure to wear a belt or risk inadvertently revealing your rear to everyone around.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, the Herb Ripper comes with a stainless steel ball for shaking off kief from your buds, and the custom guitar pick included for scraping kief is a pretty cool bonus!

Consistency: Standard plate offers a medium-fine consistency, with options for coarse and fine-grade plates at checkout

Capacity: Medium-low (grinds up to 1.5 grams, but has a large collection chamber)

Strength: Compensates for its low capacity with super-strong, effortless grinding

Materials/Construction: Beautiful polished steel with exceptional build quality

Cleaning: Small teeth should make cleaning fairly easy

Pieces/Screen: Works as a three or four-piece grinder, featuring a high-quality kief screen

The Herb Ripper is recommended for its superb materials, excellent build quality, and elegant appearance.

lift innovations weed grinder photo

Lift Innovations

The Lift Innovations weed grinder is an exciting product. While some may argue that if something isn't broken, there's no need to fix it, innovation is what leads us to progress. Just imagine if we were still using outhouses and splinter-filled toilet paper. So, what sets the Lift Innovations weed grinder apart? Instead of using teeth to grind the herb, it utilizes a set of blades that gently shreds the product, similar to a food processor or coffee grinder.

Loading this grinder is slightly different as it has three compartments instead of the standard 'plate' arrangement. Surprisingly, it can hold up to 2.5 grams with some extra space. Grinding the herb requires minimal effort and quickly provides a fluffy consistency with medium-sized pieces. It's worth noting that some bits of bud may get stuck to the blades and may require some effort to remove, but it doesn't get squished into the crevices like regular grinders. Cleaning is a breeze as long as you have an ashtray nearby.

lift innovations grinder loaded with weed

The Lift Innovations grinder has a great feel to it and produces nicely shredded bud. It may not seem vastly different from other grinders at first glance, but it's definitely more enjoyable to use. We haven't had the chance to examine it under a microscope, but if we do, we'll keep you updated. Additionally, the grinder comes with a matching ashtray, making it a stylish accessory for your coffee table.

Update: The ashtray included with the grinder is also a tool for disassembling it. This is crucial for cleaning and allows for part replacements, which are available for purchase on their website. For more information, you can watch their YouTube video on the subject.

Consistency: The grinder produces medium-large, fluffy shreds of bud, providing slightly more surface area for vaping or cooking compared to conventional grinders.

Capacity: It has a medium capacity and can fit approximately 2 grams of herb.

Strength: The grinder easily shreds dense material.

Materials/Construction: It is well-crafted using durable yet lightweight materials.

Cleaning: The grinder can be easily disassembled for cleaning.

Pieces/Screen: It functions as a 3 or 4 piece grinder and features a high-quality, fine-grade kief screen.

The Lift Innovations grinder is recommended as a versatile option at the $100 price point. However, it may be challenging to find one at the moment, and there were previous concerns about communication and customer service, although it appears that those issues have been addressed.
