21-08-2017

When I need to get some work done – and I mean really get some work done – regardless of where I am, I always look for coffee shops near me. There’s nothing quite like sitting down on the laptop with a hot cup of coffee and getting some real work done.

But that’s just me. There are 100 other reasons you might be looking for local cafes near me, or coffee shops in your area. Whether you’re just looking to get out of the house, a quick walk during your lunch hour, or simply to grab a nice hot cup of coffee, our app and website will let you find the best coffee shop in your neighbourhood.

Best Coffee Shops Near Me – Use the Google Map

When we say the best coffee shop we mean it. Our app lets you find the closest cafes nearby and lets you view real customer ratings so you can see where the best local spots are in town. Use the app by confirming your location or entering your address into the search bar and clicking find.

We’ll find you all kinds of local coffee shops waiting to be explored.

Working from a coffee shop

Now I mentioned that I typically work from many coffee shops and cafes. For the cost of a cup of coffee I can spend the morning – if not much of the afternoon – in a coffee shop without being hassled. That’s much cheaper than renting an office.

However, there are a few things you should be aware of if you do plan to work from a cafe during your day. Firstly, bring your charger. There’s nothing worse than getting all setup only to realize you’re sitting at 10% battery. It’s also important to realize that you are taking up a seat at the coffee shop. While I don’t feel guilty if I’m only in there for a few hours if I’ve spent some money, you need to make sure you are a paying customer if you’re going to take a seat from someone else.

Cafes near me with free wifi

Most cafes these days will have free wifi. You may need to pay for lunch or a coffee and ask for the code in order to get access but many just offer it up for free. If you’re looking for a cafe with wifi, use the search bar at the top of the site to specify cafe with wifi in the keywords and we will find the best results near you.

Some of the fan facourite coffee shop brands in the world

There are some amazing coffee shop brands that have done extremely well for themselves. Here are some of the readers’ favourites:

  • Starbucks – the most favourited.
  • Tim Hortons – a Canadian favourite
  • Dunkin Donuts – coffee and donuts, what’s better?
  • McCafe – mixing coffee with a big mac!
  • Caribou Coffee

Organic and Fair Trade coffee shops

While it used to be quite difficult to find good organic and fair trade coffee shops, that’s not the case at all these days. Finding a great local fair trade or organic coffee shop near me is easier now than ever as more coffee companies are moving in this direction.

Vegan coffee shops

While coffee itself is vegan (as long as you use some sort of dairy-free milk) there are more and more vegan coffee shops appearing across many of the major and smaller cities. Use our web app if you’re looking for vegan coffee shops nearby.

Great things to eat at a coffee shop

There’s more to a coffee shop than just coffee, obviously. Many local cafes will serve a wide variety of sweets and some even a pretty robust lunch menu. My personal favourite is the go-to chicken wrap with a nice hot cup of bold coffee, black.

While your milage may vary, don’t discount a cafe or coffee shop thinking they don’t have great food – you can find some great hidden gems.

When CoffeeLocally founders (and brothers), Chris & Cory, tasted fresh coffee from a small farm in Colombia, they knew they’d never want to experience coffee any other way. That experience inspired them to try to recreate that quality by roasting fresh coffee in their garage. Soon enough, they were roasting coffee for friends and family and started a small roasting business.

Despite the stark contrast between big chain coffee brands and local roasters, Chris & Cory quickly discovered how difficult it is for small roasters to get found.

Coffee remains as one of the most famous drinks in the market today and consuming a cup of joe before starting the day has become an iconic image in many cultures across the globe. While coffee has consistently been one of the most sought-after drinks, the prevalence of cafes or coffee shops in many places has certainly contributed to the drink’s popularity among the younger generation.

From being a simple drink that was commonly associated with laborers and employees needing a coffee break to jumpstart their working day, coffee has become a trendy drink that can be consumed anytime in a wide variety of forms–from straight up black coffee to fancy lattes or frappuccinos that have an array of additional flavors.

Indeed, the ever-increasing popularity of coffee has inspired many entrepreneurs to establish their coffee shops or if possible, choose an old coffee shop for sale. While choosing to start up or buy coffee shops can seem to be an easy investment, engaging in the coffee industry takes hard work and determination to ensure that the business succeeds. So if you are interested in buying or establishing your coffee shops, below are some tips that you may find useful in your new venture.

The location is vital. In choosing locations, it’s essential to consider what image you want your shop to portray. For example, having a coffee shop in a busy neighborhood will help you establish regular patrons easier, but the noise and the bustle may turn off some people who prefer quiet places where they can drink their coffee in peace. If you are having difficulty choosing a perfect location, it may be a good idea to look for an old coffee shop for sale, since these are often strategically located depending on your needs.

Invest in proper equipment. Notice that almost all successful coffee shops make it a point to display and take pride in their equipment because having high-quality equipment can often spell the difference between serving mediocre and great coffee. If you want to minimize costs, it’s also a good idea to buy coffee shop premises that include high-quality equipment in the bargain.

Go for the gold when choosing your beans. Having high-quality beans can help cement your reputation as one of the coffee shops near mebest coffee shops in town, so don’t take chances!

Offer promos and loyalty perks. Given a large number of neighborhood coffee shops that are sprouting all over the metro, one way of making your shop stand out is to offer various promos and perks to your customers. Examples are free wi-fi services, loyalty cards, and birthday perks. These small extras can seem extravagant at first but will certainly benefit you once you get to establish a set of loyal customers who will provide you with a steady income. Once again, it can be a good idea to look for a defunct coffee shop for sale or to buy coffee shop premises that were once successful and take notes on how these businesses flourished or failed, depending on the situation.

Build your brand. Branding doesn’t always have to mean spending big bucks on advertising– it can be as simple as choosing an image for your coffee shop and sticking to it. For instance, you can decide on the ambiance you want for your shop and what type of customers you aim to attract and to focus your energies on developing your ideas.

Lenox Coffee roasts its beans out of Red Hook and sources its milk upstate from Battenkill Valley Creamery. Its bright space in Central Harlem has been open since 2011 and serves a small menu of breakfast and lunch items as well as beer and wine. The pastries here are sourced from the Good Batch, Colson Patisserie, and a rotating roster of local New York bakeries.

Plowshares, a low-key favorite roaster in the city for years, has reopened its original Bloomingdale coffee shop on Broadway for daily service. In addition to house-roasted coffee, the cafe also offers a selection of pastries from James Beard Award-winning bakery Bien Cuit.

3. Super Nice Coffee and Bakery by Danny Macaroons

The coffee at Super Nice is stellar, particularly its drink specials like the caramelized brown sugar and dulce de leche lattes, but do yourself a favor and throw on one of the cafe’s many baked goods or desserts. They’re always changing, but top-notch options that keep coming back include the cinnamon rolls, almond croissant, guava-cheese danish, and sandwiches. There’s no seating at the moment, but consider making your way to the nearby Marcus Garvey Park for an impromptu picnic.

Holding down the Hell’s Kitchen coffee scene since 2013, Rex brews top cups from esteemed North Carolina roaster Counter Culture Coffee alongside fresh baked treats and coveted egg sandwiches. The cafe’s Cuban is worth the stroll over to Tenth Avenue, too.

Not content to let Long Island City have all the Queens coffee fun, Kinship helms a beloved three-cafe operation throughout Astoria. Within the past year, the coffee company started its own Astoria-based roastery, stocking its shops with a range of single-origin coffees and blends. Kinship also sells growlers of cold brew from each location.

The Aussies running this modern Midtown shop have provided a getaway for a neighborhood otherwise glutted with Starbucks and LPQs. Alongside flat whites, cold brew, and pour-overs, the shop serves sandwiches, salads, and a behemoth of toasted banana bread with ricotta, berries, honey, and almond brittle. Get the schnitzel sandwich, avocado smash, or the “green eggs & damn!”, and enjoy personal service as good as the food & drink.

A solid cortado and drip coffee anchor the menu of this stylish coffee bar near Bryant Park. It’s a much stronger choice for coffee than the several chain stores closer to the park, and as a bonus it serves a superb warm chocolate chip cookie. Culture Espresso is open daily and has a second location two avenues over at 307 West 38th Street.

8. Variety Coffee Roasters

The first Manhattan outlet of this popular Brooklyn chain is an ideal pit-stop for a comforting cup of coffee. Its menu tends slightly towards richer, earthier origins, with a small selection of pastries available. Variety also has additional locations in the Upper East Side, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, and Bushwick.

This is the original location for growing coffee roaster Sweetleaf. Besides the standard lineup of high-quality espresso drinks, there are two specialty iced coffee drinks worth ordering, both a far cry from the saccharine concoctions served at bigger coffee chains: the Rocket Fuel, cold brew spiked with chicory, maple syrup, and milk, and the Voodoo Child, a Vietnamese-style iced coffee made with sweetened condensed milk. The coffee roaster stays open through the late afternoon, but those looking to snag an evening beer or cocktail can swing by Sweetleaf at 4615 Center Boulevard, at 46th Avenue.

Claire Chan has curated a Vancouver, Canada vibe at this destination for a fine cup of cortado and single-origin pour-overs. The general store-slash-coffee shop also has a light menu with dishes like lemon chicken soup, avocado toast, and smoothies, available for takeout and delivery. (Note: The shop is currently closed for a summer break but will reopen on August 30.)

The ability to “choose your bean” among several on the menu, as well as an array of different brewing methods, makes the experience here as much of a draw as the coffee. Hi-Collar in the East Village specializes in siphon coffee and pulls inspiration from kissatens, Japanese coffee and tea cafes.

This splashy new Chinese coffee shop landed in the West Village in 2020, serving drinks previously unseen in New York City, like fermented dark tea and coffees made with fruit juice. Beverages made with coffee and orange juice have found their way to other cities, but Meno is among the first in New York City to make versions with brighter fruits, like pineapple. The shop’s beans are specially roasted to have a mild coffee aftertaste, “similar to a light Americano,” says spokesperson Ying Ye.

Owners Liz Quijada and Jamie McCormick moved this popular East Village coffee shop — named for the word “hug” in Portuguese — into a bigger location and added booze and more food options in 2016, but it has remained a chill and cozy neighborhood spot for grabbing coffee and espresso. Don’t skip the olive oil cake, scented with orange and a lovely pairing for espresso. Closed Mondays.

The East Village’s Coffee Project is the first of its four locations, which now includes a cafe in downtown Brooklyn, a Chelsea outpost, and an expansive coffee lab and education center in Queens. Like all of Coffee Project’s spots, this is a place for big-time coffee drinkers. Don’t miss the shop’s famed deconstructed latte.

The Flatiron District’s chic coffee shop and cafe Felix Roasting Co. opened a second location in 2020, bringing some life and a little luxe to Greene Street in Soho. For those who haven’t been, it’s important to know that Felix is over-the-top, and that it’s trying to be. The coffee shop is a place where sourdough toast with avocado can cost as much as — before adding smoked salmon for more — and rose water spritzes are sipped in custom banquettes under vaulted 18-foot ceilings. Despite everything, it also serves one of the city’s best cups of espresso, even if it comes served in a wine glass with tonic water.

Enjoy a uniquely charming coffee stop at this Nolita cafe that specializes in an exclusively Nicaraguan coffee menu, courtesy of Nicaraguan-American founder César Vega. A small selection of sundry items (totes, pretty magazines, and merchandise) are available for purchase, as are Café Integral’s own roasted coffee beans.

This sprawling Williamsburg roastery and cafe is an outpost of a coffee roaster in Bogota, Colombia. All its raw beans arrive by FedEx straight from Colombia just 10 days after being picked, which makes for some of the freshest coffee around. The space has plenty of seating, but even on the busiest days, there’s probably going to be more plants than people. Devoción also has locations in Downtown Brooklyn and Flatiron.

Black Fox on Pine Street has the best coffee selection day-to-day of any shop in the city, showcasing coffees from a variety of esteemed roasters around the world. The iced matcha latte is a standout on the drink menu and should be ordered with the coffee shop’s housemade nut milk.

Split Eights is a sleek coffee shop built for the Financial District office crowd, where — once offices fully open again — brisk work catchups will undoubtedly unfold over expertly pulled espresso shots. The low-lit, bi-level cafe stocks Brooklyn-based Parlor Coffee for its brews and ricotta-stuffed muffins, chocolate croissants, and tahini chocolate chip cookies from Bourke Street Bakery. To note, Split Eights shuts down its coffee program at 3 p.m. on weekdays to convert over to a cocktail bar that opens up at 4:30 p.m.

Sey (yes, spelled backwards) was started by Tobin Polk and Lance Schnorenberg, whose previous venture, Lofted Coffee, drew accolades for its progressive roasts. The space is minimal, bright, and plant-filled, the perfect stage for the Nordic-style coffee for which it became popular. Roasting operations are in view at the back of the cafe.

For the freshest of fresh-roasted coffee beans, it’s hard to beat % Arabica. The Kyoto-based import opened its first U.S. location in Brooklyn earlier this year with a souped-up espresso machine, baked goods from Balthazar, and a “green bean corner” where customers can buy beans to be roasted on the spot in seven minutes.

Dweebs stands out from the average modern cafe as boldly unpretentious. The charming, minimalist space feels homespun, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the shop even offers a printer to get that work printed out while waiting for a bagel or a coffee roasted by Brooklyn-based Spectrum Coffee.

Drip Coffee opened in Bushwick this year and became an instant hit for the quality of its drinks and service. Owner Nigel Price operated the shop alone in its first six months, serving up impeccable espresso and cold brew that’s steeped for 48 hours. He’s since brought on a full team of baristas and opened a second location in Brooklyn Heights.

24. Stumptown Coffee Roasters

Of this Portland-born chain’s handful of New York storefronts, its vault-like space in Cobble Hill is most worth a visit. The outdoor patio is ideal for sampling Stumptown’s selection of coffee or noshing on a breakfast taco from King David Tacos, sold at the shop.

Kitten Coffee has been quietly roasting some of the city’s best coffee beans since 2007, when founder Rowan Tuckfield relocated to Brooklyn from Melbourne, Australia. Tuckfield roasts his beans out of a rented space in one of the borough’s few remaining cardboard factories, and serves them alongside pastries from two bite-sized storefronts in Bed-Stuy.

Like its sibling shops Little Skips South and the now-closed Baby Skips, Little Skips East aspires to be a true neighborhood coffee shop. Founder Linda Thach spotlights a rotating list of local coffee companies alongside anchor roaster Counter Culture Coffee. The menu includes tuna and scrambled egg sandwiches, along with creative coffee drinks, like its seasonal iced ube latte.

Of Everyman’s three esteemed cafes in the city, the Park Slope location is the most welcome — bringing truly high quality coffee to the otherwise so-so Fifth Avenue coffee corridor. Choose from meticulously brewed traditional coffee offerings, or one of its signature drinks like the tiki tonic, made from pineapple, espresso, tonic, and coconut sugar.

Cousins Ali Suliman and Hakim Sulaimani launched Yafa Cafe in 2019 to put a spotlight on Yemeni coffee culture in Sunset Park. Two years and one pandemic later, it’s still going strong as a neighborhood cornerstone where the Yemeni-rooted food is just as good as the assortment of coffees. The cousins also started to roast an in-house line of coffee during the pandemic, offering blends and Yemeni single-origin roasts for sale at the shop and online. (Note: The shop is currently closed for a summer break but will reopen on August 30.)

Owner Nigel Price operated the shop alone in its first six months, serving up impeccable espresso and cold brew that’s steeped for 48 hours. He’s since brought on a full team of baristas and opened a second location in Brooklyn Heights.

Baristas working behind the counter at Stumptown

The 25 Best Coffeehouses in Greater Phoenix

18-11-2019 · Including newcomers and old favorites, these 25 are our favorite coffee shops in greater Phoenix.

18-11-2019
There is an abundance of local shops in the Valley serving up solid, well-sourced, damn-good coffee. Of all the fine places to kick back and caffeinate in greater Phoenix, these 25 are our current favorites.

This shop, from the owners of Matt’s Big Breakfast, delivers the same simple elegance and commitment to quality ingredients that we’ve come to love from Matt’s. Giant Coffee serves its own Giant-branded organic and fair trade coffee roasted by Roastery Of Cave Creek. Giant also uses Holy Kakow out of Portland, Oregon to make its mochas perfectly chocolatey, but not too sweet (the shop also uses its organic vanilla syrup for the honey vanilla latte). Giant’s house-made pastries take the cake and are the perfect accompaniment to its coffee. But the coffee can’t take all the credit: Giant’s baristas ensure that each drink is crafted perfectly or they don’t serve it.

Nitro cold brew from local roaster Peixoto is on tap at the coffee bar. - JACOB TYLER DUNN

Nitro cold brew from local roaster Peixoto is on tap at the coffee bar.

Jacob Tyler Dunn

Peixoto Coffee's service and product quality reflect an uncommon maturity. The shop primarily roasts and serves coffee from owner Julia Peixoto Peters’ family farm in Brazil, but it does make a few exceptions, like beans from other regions around the world. Photos around the shop highlight coffee fruit ripening, being harvested and being processed, and a simple painted map on one of the shop’s exposed brick walls puts things from a geographic perspective. Peixoto Coffee has also has stayed in touch with national specialty coffee trends, bringing fun items like nitro cold brew and iced cascara to the coffee scene.
Maverick Coffee is a multi-roaster concept in north Scottsdale. - LAUREN CUSIMANO

Maverick Coffee is a multi-roaster concept in north Scottsdale.

Lauren Cusimano

Two of Maverick Coffee’s owners are Olympic-caliber athletes — and the shop's baristas' execution is every bit as disciplined, yet artful, as you might expect. The shop, which sells coffee from San Francisco-based Ritual Coffee Roasters, pairs a relaxed atmosphere with immaculate coffee preparation. The service is friendly and knowledgeable, but they do without any kind of pretentious coffee-shop air; the staff isn’t afraid to have a little fun.
King Coffee in Tempe. - LAUREN CUSIMANO

King Coffee in Tempe.

Lauren Cusimano

King Coffee is a Tempe-area shop with that special, indescribable something. There’s something about this pint-sized cafe that we just adore. Maybe it brings us back to our college days; King Coffee certainly has all the hallmarks of a casual college-town cafe (artwork made by some dude’s friend? Hand-drawn posters for local house shows? Yes and yes.) But contrary to the classic college coffee shop ethos, King doesn’t slack when it comes to quality. King Coffee’s staff do good work with beans from local roaster Cortez Coffee.
Cartel has a simple yet modern location in downtown Phoenix. - JACOB TYLER DUNN

Cartel has a simple yet modern location in downtown Phoenix.

Jacob Tyler Dunn

We had a hard time picking a favorite Cartel Coffee location — after all, the roaster has built a small empire in metro Phoenix and Tucson, and each of the shops has a unique feel to fit its neighborhood and surroundings. Each of Cartel’s locations are great in their own way, but we’re particularly partial to the downtown Phoenix locale, and we've always been thrilled with our coffee drinks here. Fun decorations, including a wall partition made of bicycle wheels and a colorful, low-hanging chandelier, make the space’s open design and sleek, industrial interior a bit more welcoming.

Just a few short blocks east of Central Avenue, Fillmore Coffee Co. is a haven from the hustle and bustle of downtown Phoenix. The coffee shop is tucked away on the first floor of the Skyline Loft Apartments and is the perfect place to grab a quick cup of coffee. If you're looking for a pastry or hearty breakfast sandwich to go with your morning cup of joe, Fillmore's got you covered. They offer breakfast all day and they only use organic ingredients.

Royal Coffee Bar serves local brew in the 1899 Teeter Carriage House. - ROYAL COFFEE BAR & ROASTING CO.

Royal Coffee Bar serves local brew in the 1899 Teeter Carriage House.

Royal Coffee Bar & Roasting Co.

Royal Coffee’s clean, balanced roasts and stellar execution make visiting any of its two locations a treat. Not only do they roast some incredible beans, but Royal’s baristas are also talented at preparing the product. The Heritage Square location makes incredible use of a small space. The coffee spot inside the historic, 1899 carriage house is owned by Hector and Michelle Ruiz, and the two have been roasting small-batch coffee since 2008. This little shop’s simple, gnarled wooden tables and funky wall hangings pack a huge punch when it comes to decor. Royal’s roaster takes up a fair amount of the shop, so interested parties can watch the coffee magic happen,

Scottsdale’s Lakeview Coffee is a classic coffee shop in every sense. This big, breezy shop offers great service and ample seating in a casual environment. We especially love the big, beautiful patio. The shop roasts its own beans in house, in full view of their dedicated following, and the shop’s owners aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty behind the bar. The shop serves a variety of delicious foods and creative pastries, from simple snacks to full meals (European-style pastry cones are a nice and unique touch).

The very inviting Songbird Coffee & Tea House. - JACOB TYLER DUNN

The very inviting Songbird Coffee & Tea House.

Jacob Tyler Dunn

The historic Third Street house, built in 1904, is home to Songbird Coffee & Tea House, which has elevated the downtown coffee scene. We like a coffee shop that isn’t afraid to experiment a little, and the experiment Songbird does — with pop-up food vendors, new pastries, and of course, crazy coffee drinks. But that doesn’t mean they’re not committed to quality. Songbird, for the most part, keeps its menu simple and focuses on the basics: making great drinks with Cortez Coffee Roasters beans. Drinks prepared well by people who enjoy preparing them? We are completely on board with that idea.
Bicycles at the entrance of Regroup. - ALYSSA TIDWELL

Bicycles at the entrance of Regroup.

Alyssa Tidwell

An Old Town coffee joint, Regroup is a haven for espresso enthusiasts and avid cyclists alike. Every new shipment of beans are cupped and assessed for quality in roast and overall flavor, and drinks prepared using the coveted Slayer Espresso machine make it that much better. And it’ll never serve coffee with a roast date longer than two weeks earlier. It’s the perfect place to grab a macchiato on your morning bike ride (they also have a full-service bike repair and rental shop). For a morning pick-me-up, check out the Slayer Shake, a blend of cold brew, almond milk, almond butter, banana, cacao, and plant-based protein.
The spacious shared patio at Lola. - JACOB TYLER DUNN

The spacious shared patio at Lola.

Jacob Tyler Dunn

We’re continuously impressed with Lola Coffee Bar in downtown Phoenix, which always seems to be serving a delectable array of impressive pastries like peach raspberry almond tarts. There’s ample seating on the cozy, shaded back patio and a selection of well-crafted coffee drinks. The Matador is the drink to try — espresso, mocha, and cinnamon topped with espresso whipped cream. Or treat yourself to an iced caramel latte in the hotter months.
Berdena's is a cozy specialty coffee shop in Scottsdale. - LAUREN CUSIMANO

Berdena's is a cozy specialty coffee shop in Scottsdale.

Lauren Cusimano

Berdena’s keeps it simple with a clean, fresh, modern aesthetic and a simple menu featuring coffee drinks from San Francisco-based Ritual Coffee Roasters, though it serves organic and local coffee when possible. We love that they serve tasty and aesthetically pleasing pastries from lightly salted avocado toast, Straus yogurt, to crispy, airy yeast-raised waffles.
Bergies, the backyard-style coffee shop. - LAUREN CUSIMANO

Bergies, the backyard-style coffee shop.

Lauren Cusimano

For coffee-lovers in the East Valley, Bergies is a down-to-earth space serving the freshest roasts and an array of exciting drinks. Brothers and owners Brian and Bruce Bergeson strive to achieve the perfect roast for each individual batch of beans, a meticulous process of trial and error. The shop itself is small and cozy, situated among a larger patio space in the heart of downtown Gilbert.
Find pastries galore at Lux. - ARYA DARYANI

Find pastries galore at Lux.

Arya Daryani

With its lively atmosphere, Lux has definitely been a go-to spot for coffee in uptown Phoenix. It offers an extensive list of pastries and espresso drinks with baristas who really know their stuff. All coffee beans are hand-roasted in house and come from Brazil, Sumatra, Nicaragua, and more. In addition, Lux serves a variety of great eats as well as beer, wine, and cocktails in the bar area.
Press is milking lattes all over the Valley. - PRESS COFFEE

Press is milking lattes all over the Valley.

Press Coffee

Press Coffee is (yet another) commendable accomplishment from one of our favorite local roasters. The big, open space has plenty of seating and brings a few fun and funky elements to the clean, modern design we’ve come to appreciate from Press’s other locations. Expansive windows bring light into the space, while red accent chairs give the space a sleek and modern feel. We've never been disappointed by Press’ unique, region-centric coffees, and the cafe on the bottom floor of the Muse Apartments delivers the same impressive execution we’ve come to expect at Press’ other outposts.

If you leave Gold Bar Espresso thirsty, you messed up somewhere. The family-owned and -operated coffee shop has been quenching parched mouths in Tempe since the mid-'90s. It offers a wide selection of beverages: the obvious coffee and espresso drinks, as well as Italian sodas, teas, smoothies, and hot cocoas. Pop in on a weekend night and enjoy live jazz or grab a few friends for one of their popular game nights. If it's just coffee and Wi-Fi that you require, they've got you covered on that front on the daily. There're a few tables and chairs outside if the weather's right, and a small back-room area that makes a great meeting space.

Old Town Peoria's amazing and modern coffee shop. - DRIFTWOOD COFFEE

Old Town Peoria's amazing and modern coffee shop.

Driftwood Coffee

Driftwood Coffee, located in the heart of Old Town Peoria, is all about community. Owners Luke Bentley and Lance Linderman intentionally have created a space where people can drink coffee, enjoy a great meal, and just be together. A community-centered attitude is apparent in all that Driftwood does; they even support other coffee shops by featuring their beans. Choose between a locally or nationally roasted bean, depending on how altruistic you feel. Their speed bar, touting espresso drinks, cold brew, and a hot and iced tea selection, is perfect for the early morning grind.
Find this and you'll find your spot for the next four hours. - LAUREN CUSIMANO

Find this and you'll find your spot for the next four hours.

Lauren Cusimano

Jobot's patio is Phoenix-famous. Most coffeehouses in town have a couple of tables outside or don't have anywhere to sit outdoors at all, so when the weather is actually nice, there's no coffeehouse more hauntable than Jobot. That's not to mention the incomparable people-watching of those strolling Roosevelt Row. Its ample out-front seating also comes with high-quality coffee choices of course.
A Shot of Java is going to be the most authentic coffee shop you’ll find in downtown Glendale. - LAUREN CUSIMANO

A Shot of Java is going to be the most authentic coffee shop you’ll find in downtown Glendale.

Lauren Cusimano

Tucked back in the alleyway off the main drag, A Shot of Java is going to be the most authentic coffee shop you’ll find in downtown Glendale. Inside the tiny coffeehouse — and it does feel like a living room — you'll find a few tables, local art, and the order counter. Offerings include pour-over coffee, cold brew, lattes and mochas, Vietnamese-style coffee, and additional options like tea, Italian sodas, smoothies, and hot cocoa. The alley is heavily shaded by trees (or lit by twinkle lights) and adorned with bistro-style tables and chairs, artwork, and a little bit of traffic hum from Glendale Avenue.
Belhaus in the Grand Avenue Arts District. - GINO BELASSEN

Belhaus in the Grand Avenue Arts District.

Gino Belassen

Operating in the Grand Avenue Arts District as a double-agent art gallery and coffee shop, Belhaus has charm and grit inside the unassuming storefront off 13th Avenue in the old Bragg's Pie Factory building. When owner Anthony Fiorelli got a call from soon-to-be partners Gino and Sherri Belassen, he knew it was time to take his vintage Vespa coffee cart, Caffio, to the next level. Utilizing a Colombian-Honduran blend from local Xanadu Coffee Roasters, the espresso and accompanying latte art is sure to please. Stroll in for their signature Lumio, a savory and comforting burnt honey latte, and stay for the people-watching.

A pumpkin spice latte from Sarafina Coffee Roasters — because there had to be at least one on this list. - LYNN TRIMBLE

A pumpkin spice latte from Sarafina Coffee Roasters — because there had to be at least one on this list.

Lynn Trimble

This downtown spot opened its doors in the historic Luhrs Towers, giving it an extra boost of neat. No novice to the business, owner Damien Serafina actually launched his first coffee shop in the Valley, Roma Coffee, back in 1992. Roasting their own small-batch Ugandan coffee on-site is just part of the charisma of the current establishment. The brick and concrete interior give Serafina an urban yet homey feel, while local artwork and a black leather Midcentury Modern couch round out the laid-back aura.
Downtown Mesa's best coffee shop. - LAUREN CUSIMANO

Downtown Mesa's best coffee shop.

Lauren Cusimano

Do you have a day of antique shopping ahead of you? Or do you work in downtown Mesa? Either way, stopping into the Lost Dutchman coffee shop will get you set up. Yes, there are options like Americano, cappuccino, and cold press, but there are hyper-local orders like the Gold Rush, and the decaffeinated Flying Dutchman steamers. In addition to a cup of coffee, you can grab green coffee beans for home roasting or a quick treat from the in-house Lombardo's Gelato Company. The setup is perfect for a laptop day or a small group of friends.

Provision Coffee Bar at Arcadia serves coffee with a cause. Striving to build strong community relationships through quality coffee, Provision directs its profits toward aiding struggling areas where coffee is a primary revenue source. It’s a place where direct communication and open dialogue with farmers, including those with crops supplied from Guatemala and Burundi, is held in high regard. The full-service coffee bar offers an array of awesome drinks, including the spiced honey mocha and the honey lavender latte. They also offer loose-leaf teas and nitro cold brew.

The small-but-sterling Carefree Coffee Roastery. - CHRIS MALLOY

The small-but-sterling Carefree Coffee Roastery.

Chris Malloy

This German’s shop with multicolor chalkboard listings and matcha mayo on sandwiches is anything but boring. Owner Lars Hesse considers Carefree Coffee a European-style shop. He hews to the espresso-based classics like café au lait and Americano, though he does make a few newer favorites, like a flat white. And a cold cappuccino made with an experimental cold foam. The shop also offers a wraparound patio and a small selection of breakfast and lunch items with a German bent.
Copper Star Coffee in the Melrose District. - LAUREN CUSIMANO

Copper Star Coffee in the Melrose District.

Lauren Cusimano

We were already crazy about Copper Star before we discovered they sell their own locally grown, house-roasted coffee beans. At first, we worried that owning a bag might keep us from the cozy confines of Copper Star, where the staff is so nice to us and the homemade bagels are so fresh and tasty. But even after dragging home a bagful of his mellow, rich beans, we found that we kept visiting Bill Sandweg's swell coffee shop as often as we could. As tasty as our home-brewed Copper Star is, as both a hot latte and a chilly iced coffee, we can't stay away from our favorite corner cafe.
